Pahiyas Festival 2010 - a late post

I thought of posting this since yesterday is the Pahiyas Festival 2011. It’s a late post, anyway last year, May 15, 2010, Ching and I went to Lucban, Quezon to see the Pahiyas Festival 2010. It was my first time to see the festival and I was excited about it. It's a long walk on a very hot day! But it was fun, so you won't mind the heat and walking through the whole town. Vehicles are not allowed inside the town, so you have no choice but to walk. and besides, you really have to walk to see the houses that were decorated with colorful Kiping, fruits, vegetables, and handicrafts. And of course to have your photo moment. The people are very nice. They are even the one insisting that you came inside and have your pictures taken and they don't mind it.

Pahiyas Festival is celebrated every 15th of May in Lucban Quezon. It is the Lucbanon's way of thanking their Patron Saint, San Isidro Labrador for a bountiful harvest.

And every year, the Municipality of Lucban, held a contest where the people of Lucban decorates their houses and the best house will win a cash prize. They fill their houses with colorful display called Kiping. Kiping is made from ground rice paste spread to a leaf adn let it dry under the sun. It is edible; you can fry it or grill. It’s like tacos. It is considered the integral part of the festival. It is the main attraction.
Pahiyas Festival is from the Tagalog word “hiyas” which means “jewel” and the “Pahiyas” means “precious offering”.
